The “Mercado Artesanal de Otavalo” (the Saturday Market in Otavalo) is one of the greatest tourist attractions in the Ecuadorian Sierra. Famous for its textiles, usually made of wool, Otavalo is also known for its traditional music and musicians and many different instruments are exhibited at the market together with many other cultural elements linked to the Quichua tradition. However, there is a neighbouring food and craft market for local people to buy and sell their products which embodies the essence of Andean people much more authentically than the former.
The “Otavalo’s market” photo gallery by Flickr member “Flickmor” shows the tourist section of the market, a rising tide of colour and different textures. Album may be viewed in presentation mode, through the following link.
