The bailecito (“bailecito norteño”) is a rhythm native to Bolivia, which has been incorporated to the musical repertoire in Jujuy province and, to a lesser extent, in the province of Salta (both located in northwest Argentina).
It is an open position couple dance with graceful lilting movements. The choreography depicts the courtship games played by a young man, who whimsically waves his handkerchief in one hand, a prop that is used in several South American folkloric dances.
