Fiesta en los Andes: Ritos, música y danzas del Perú [Festival in the Andes: Rites, music and dances of Peru]
(Lima: IDE/PUCP, 2008)
Illustr. – 199 pp.

The Instituto de Etnomusicología (IDE, Institute of Ethnomusicology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, PUCP), makes the results of different projects involving research and cultural promotion as well as its labour to preserve collections of sound recordings obtained in the Peruvian Andes, available through audiovisual productions and large-format publications profusely illustrated with ethnographic photographs taken on site by the Institute’s researchers during their field trips. An example of one of these publications is “Fiestas en los Andes”.
This book, edited by IDE’s director, Raúl Renato Romero, includes articles by Dr. Romero, along with other five scholars, covering basic topics for the understanding of Andean culture in general and Andean festivities in particular: space and time in the fiesta (Juan Ossio), memory and identity (Gisela Cánepa), traditions and new generations (Giuliana Borea), the community work and associated celebrations (Manuel Ráez), the participation of women (Maria Eugenia Ulfe) and the role of musical instruments and music in celebrations (Raúl R. Romero).
