Festival of San Lorenzo

Festival of San Lorenzo

On August 10, the village of San Lorenzo (Méndez province, department of Tarija) celebrates its patron saint (San Lorenzo or St. Lawrence). In this traditional village, chunchos promisers dance to the music of the flautilla (small notched flute) and the tamboriles (snare drums) as happens during the Festival of St. Roque in the capital city, Tarija.

The album "Fiesta de San Lorenzo - Tarija", by Flickr user Tarija Global, shows pictures taken at the closing of the festival, including the chunchos procession.
