Caucas's chirimía

Caucas's chirimía

Cauca department, in the south-western part of Colombia, gathers several variants of the country's "Andean chirimías", traditional ensembles of flutes and drums, including the bands of the town of Popayán, and those in the Misak (Guambiano) y Nasa (Paez) communities.

The album "Chirimía caucana", by Flickr user La Ruta de la Chirimía Caucana, shows a collection of pictures featuring some of these bands, such as Pipicanos de Almaguer, ChirimíaMos de Cajibío, Aires de mi Tierra, Los Pelucitas and Alborada Patoja de Popayán, Los Navideños de El Bordo, Cafeteros de Betania and Chajoyoes de El Tambo, Guasayaco de Almaguer, Inspiración Guambiana de Silvia, Flautas del Macizo and Gimas de La Vega, Mawempa de Timbío, and Juchiri de Sotará.
